How Do We Set Up a Home Entertainment System?

Posted on February 10, 2021May 4, 2021 By Leo Korhonen

Setting up a home entertainment system is a fun and exciting thing to do. There are guides available when you purchase the speakers and TV set. Before we can set up our very own home theater system, and things like say, home cinema seating, we must first know the different components we need. Keep on reading to learn more.

What will we need for an up-to-date home entertainment system?

The concept of building a home theater system is a challenge. If we keep a step-by-step list of what we have to do, it won’t be that difficult. The following are some standard components we used to set up our home theater systems.

  • Surround Sound System or Home Theater Receiver – for transmitting sound to create a quality audio system
  • Television or Video with Screen Projector – means of sending visual images and sound to your living room as pictures and sounds that appear on a screen
  • A television antenna, cable, digital box, or a satellite box with active DIRECTV packages – to transmit signals from various networks to enable us to view shows and programs.
  • A compact disc player compatible with any kind of disc.
  • Media streamer application to stream music and videos online. It needs an internet connection to use this. We could also make use of dish tv plans to subscribe to different apps like Spotify, YouTube, Netflix, and Viu, depending on our preference.
  • Audio or DVD recorder video camcorder for video recording. This is only optional. But if we want to upload videos on YouTube or create blogs, why not have a try? We must enjoy the fun of creating videos using the video editing software on the internet.
  • The Loudspeakers – This is also the essential component. If we want to create a more surround sound system, we need to find the best speakers of the best brand available in the market.
  • Subwoofer – Many of us, especially those beginners in the high-end audio market, believe that they only composed the sound system of left and right speakers. The subwoofers manage the blending of the lower frequency sound to match perfectly with the high frequency. The subwoofer is often overlooked in home audio-video systems.
  • Speaker wires and connection cables – different cables are needed to connect each system. Likewise, various cables are also required to join the speakers. This material often comes along when you purchase the disc player, the television, and the speakers.
  • Sound calibrator and sound meter – It is much better to have a sound meter to check if the speakers’ sound is in the audible range. For better results, it is advised that we calibrate our machine with a sound calibrator.

Know The Path

We must determine the path from cable TV to DVD, digital TV to box, TV channel, satellite, or an antenna to a stereo amplifier. When thinking about connections between the home theater and other equipment, it helps to visualize the links, especially the audio set-up. Cable boxes, such as set-top boxes, satellite or terrestrial receivers, and disc players, are the source components, and the TVs and stereo systems are the last destinations. The task here is to transfer the audio and video to their respective signal inputs to create a good quality sound while watching from your TV screen.

Home Theater Connections

Home theater components include a TV, stereo speakers, an amplifier, a subwoofer, a cable box, and a set of controls. If you want 5.1 channel sound, you will need at least five speakers and a subwoofer.

Here is a rough sketch of how to connect these various sections.

Home Theater Receiver

When the receiver is processing your video and audio signals, most of the signal power is going to your speakers. We plan to use the home theater in almost all of our audio and video components.

  1. Connect the AV receiver’s output to one of the TV inputs (It would be nice if this were HDMI since that is the most helpful connection for most systems.) With this software, you can display video from all of your home theater receivers on your TV simultaneously. You will need to set the display’s input selector to the AV receiver and the television to match the input selector on your DVD player.
  2. Another way is to connect the TV’s audio outputs to the AV receiver. You can alternatively return audio using HDMI if you have both a TV and a receiver with this feature. Watching sources connected to the TV can enable you to listen to stereo or surround sound from your home entertainment system.

Conclusion

You can easily set up your home entertainment system without hiring a professional. We can follow the product guides provided when we purchase. There are steps and instructions to follow. Likewise, a picture guide is also present to guide us in setting up the system.
